Why the Mystics are still fighting to be accepted and Wizards questions

Photo by Ned Dishman/NBAE via Getty Images Thank you for submitting your questions for this month’s mailbag. Selected questions are below. We will have our next one in June 2021. Thanks! Can you end Washington Mystics coverage yesterday? (multiple BF commenters and/or trolls) It’s sad that I have to answer this question seriously in 2021, when the WNBA is in its 25th season. The rhetorical answer? “The Mystics will go away when you take them . from my cold, dead hands!” In layman’s terms . it’s not happening in a feasible sense. Just like when Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. Some were hoping to God that Biden would somehow not be the President happen no matter what.

WNBA Previews: Connecticut Sun meet Seattle Storm, seeking 6-0 record

Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images After stumbling to an 0-5 start in 2020, the Connecticut Sun have started the 2021 WNBA season 5-0. Can they extended their season-opening unbeaten streak to 6-0? Tuesday night, they complete the final leg of their three-game west coast road trip, meeting the Seattle Storm at Angel of the Winds Arena at 10 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Even though the Sun are missing their engine in Alyssa Thomas, head coach Curt Miller has the Sun machine humming, powered by its starting five of Jonquel Jones, DeWanna Bonner, Brionna Jones, Jasmine Thomas and Natisha Hiedeman. (Although, it will be assistant coaches Brandi Poole and Chris Koclanes at the helm, as Miller is suspended for his insensitive comments about Liz Cambage during the Sun’s victory over the Las Vegas Aces.) Connecticut currently sports the WNBA’s best offense (107.4 rating), second-best defense (91.0 rating) and best overall net rating (16.4).

WNBA: Tina Charles, Washington Mystics defeat New York Liberty

Photo by Ned Dishman/NBAE via Getty Images Tina Charles scored in double figures in both of her first two games as a Washington Mystic, with one of the efforts being a 20-plus one, but she struggled form the field, shooting 33.3 percent. On Friday night at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, Charles had a breakout 34-point, nine-rebound performance that featured a 12-of-21 (57.1 percent) effort from the field and a 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) effort from beyond the arc, silencing any doubters who thought the 32-year-old might have lost a step after sitting out the 2020 season. Charles’ four made 3-pointers marked a career high and contributed to a 101-72 victory for the Mystics over her former and hometown team, the New York Liberty.

Red hot Liberty head to DC to face the Mystics

Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images Good vibes. Good energy. Just straight up good. The New York Liberty played host to the Minnesota Lynx at Barclays on Tuesday and put together a great all around team effort and came away with an excellent win. It was their third win in a row and most importantly, they surpassed their win total from the wubble last summer. New York basketball is in great hands. As the city opens up, the city game is thriving with the Nets and Knicks in the playoffs and the Liberty rising. The opponent tonight will be the Washington Mystics. It’s been a rough start for the 2019 champs as they got blown out by 21 points on Tuesday night against the Phoenix Mercury.
