WCPO9 partnered with with Trusting News and the Center for Media Engagement to participate in a study of conservative members of our audience. The project is called Re-engaging the Right. The results aren’t overly surprising, but they do offer some concrete suggestions on how to improve.

And then there were two.
With the departure of reporter Walter Smith-Randolph, WKRC-TV has only two Black journalists on newscasts, anchors John Lomax and Kyle Inskeep.
But help is on the way at Channel 12, which was publicly criticized by the Greater Cincinnati Association of Black Journalists two months ago, while two Black journalists at WCPO-TV are being promoted to weekend
Good Morning Tri-State newscasts.
Channel 12 has hired Dayton reporter-weekend anchor Courtney Wheaton from Sinclair sister stations WKEF-TV and WRGT-TV. Wheaton, president of the Dayton chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists, will start as a reporter here June 1, after the May ratings sweeps end, says Jon Lawhead, Channel 12 general manager.

CINCINNATI â Weekend mornings on WCPO 9 are getting a new infusion of talent from a couple of familiar faces.
WCPO 9 News reporter Kristen Swilley will take over the anchor duties for Good Morning Tri-State Weekends, which airs Saturdays and Sundays from 5-7 a.m. and 8-9 a.m.
âIâve known Kristen Swilley for nearly 10 years since her days as an intern in Florida,â said Mike Canan, senior director of local content for WCPO 9 News. âIt has been an absolute pleasure to watch her grow into the journalist she has become. She has a deep commitment to our community and to telling great stories that others miss.â

Words matter.
Iâve written columns in the past about the words we use and why they matter so much. One simple word choice can change the meaning or feel of a news story.
That is why we are so careful about our word choices.
But what words are appropriate for the unprecedented events that took place on Wednesday in Washington?
Our newsroom and journalists across the country have struggled with what words to use to describe the storming of the Capitol. We spent hours discussing and debating how to characterize what was happening.
