The Rock Island Engineer District christened the mv. Quincy at the Clat Adams Bicentennial Park in Quincy, Ill., April 30. Several hundred members of the public attended the ceremony, according to Allen Marshall, Rock Island District public affairs officer. Tours of the boat were offered the previous day and also following the ceremony. The mayor of Quincy, Mike Troup, spoke at the event, along with Col. Steve Sattinger, commander of the Rock Island District.
The new vessel is dedicated to the city of Quincy and joins the Mississippi River Structures Maintenance fleet located at the Mississippi River Project Office in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. It serves as the primary towing vessel for the fleet’s new Quad Cities heavy-lift crane barge. It will be responsible for helping to maintain 314 miles of the Mississippi river.

It was swearing in night for the Quincy City Council Monday.
New Mayor Mike Troup was sworn in, along with seven aldermen, including newcomers Greg Fletcher and Parker Freiburg, City Clerk Laura Oakman and City Treasurer Linda Moore.
The new council approved a nearly two-million dollar capitol bond project for sidewalks, storm drains and gutters on the west side of North 12th Street between Seminary Road and Kochs Lane, with the work to begin sometime in June.

Baldner won with 92% of the vote with 980 votes. Her opponent, Brennan Hills, received 87 votes.
Baldner said she is glad to have had a competitor like Brennan Hills because they provided a campaign that was civil and full of ideas. A very civil campaign and I am quite proud of that. So now it s just time to move forward it s time to really buckle down and talk about the issues and tell Quincy what the difference is. And I think voters are going to see a real difference in vision in leadership. So I am excited to get started, said Baldner.

In the Republican primary Tuesday, Mike Troup won by 23 votes over Paul Havermale – 1,704 to 1,681.
There’s been no word yet on a possible recount.
The Democratic primary was not as close. Nora Baldner won with 980 votes to 87 for Brennan Hills.
Troup and Baldner will square off to see who will replace Kyle Moore in the mayor’s office in the Consolidated General Election April 6th.
