With two more days until the scheduled adjournment of the General Assembly’s spring legislative session, negotiations on a high-stakes deal to steer Illinois away from carbon-causing energy sources as well as a host of other goals from ending controversial formula ratemaking and forcing ethics reforms as a utility-involved corruption investigation looms large have reached impasse, according to multiple sources engaged in bargaining.
As of Saturday night, parties remain far apart on the linchpin of the deal: how much the state should provide in subsidies for nuclear giant Exelon to prevent the company from the threatened closures of at least two, if not three, of Exelon’s six nuclear power generating stations that are not profitable. Those six locations serve the northern half of Illinois, which contains the majority of the state’s 12.8 million people.
Aquarium asks boaters to be mindful of marine mammals this Memorial Day weekend

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Marine Aquarium expects its 24-hour hotline for reporting marine mammals in need of help to be busy Memorial Day weekend. Anytime there’s a holiday, our phone rings off the hook, explained Mike Hurst with the aquarium.
Hurst hopes the marine mammals will be on boater’s minds over the holiday. I know it’s really easy to pick up a can of beer and have a party out there, but we are driving a vessel that can harm, he warned.
Vision for new sports centre and elite training base for St Helens rugby league

There were no roll call votes in the House or Senate last week. This week, Beacon Hill Roll Call reports local representatives’ roll call attendance records for the 2021 session through May 7. The House has held 32 roll calls so far in 2021. Beacon Hill Roll Call tabulates the number of roll calls on which each representative votes and then calculates that number as a percentage of the total roll call votes held. That percentage is the number referred to as the roll call attendance record.
The vast majority of the 160 representatives are not in the House chamber during a session because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sources tell Beacon Hill Roll Call that they have seen as few as 12 members in the chamber and as many as 40. The rest watch the session from their home or business and vote remotely.
Man accused of scrawling swastikas, antisemitic graffiti on SDSU building

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) â A San Diego man is facing charges related to the discovery of swastikas and other antisemitic phrases and symbols scrawled on a San Diego State University building.
SDSU Police officials said Tri Boomer Sov, a 50-year-old non-student, was identified as the suspect allegedly responsible for the graffiti on a building in the 5100 block of College Avenue.
The graffiti was reported on March 9, according to SDSU Police.
SDSU Police said: âSov was charged with misdemeanor vandalism while in custody on another non-related matter.â
