Written By: Bob Lind | × Last April, Michael Worner, formerly of Mayville, N.D., and now of Fargo, was given the 2020 Alumnus of the Year Award by the North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton. Mike graduated from the college with a liberal arts degree in 1963. The award was deeply appreciated by Mike, because of his affection for the college and because he’d recently been dealing with cancer.

From June to December, Pederson will continue as director at 50% of her hours. Pederson will be utilizing the phased retirement option, which is offered through the state though a first for Wadena County. The option requires a retirement as well as keeping her title of director, Pederson said. The county will be looking to hire an associate director in the meantime.

By Mark Potts VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Mayville State University won the NSAA Baseball Postseason Championship on Monday afternoon, defeating Bellevue University in a winner-take-all title game. The Comets scored in each of the first five innings as they built a 10-1 lead and coasted to a 16-2 victory. Mayville State earns the conference’s automatic berth to the NAIA Opening Round. Mayville will find out its location and opponent when the national tournament bracket is announced Thursday at 4 p.m. Bellevue University is a host site for the NAIA Opening Round and will advance as well. The Bruins will also find out their opponent on Thursday afternoon.

Ron Gibbens died in hospice care Sunday, May 2, at the Grand Forks home of his son, Mike. Inspired by Mike, who has cerebral palsy, Ron and Faye Gibbens built the charitable nonprofit North Dakota Association for the Disabled from an informal Grand Forks support group for parents of children with disabilities.
