Severe storm brings massive rains to Queensland and NSW, Australia
An intense low-pressure trough off the coast of southeast Australia has brought torrential rains, floods, damaging winds, and dangerous waves to southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales over the weekend, with authorities describing the impacts as similar to that of a Category 1 cyclone. While the threat has eased on Monday, December 14, severe thunderstorm and flood warnings remain in force.

Thick blankets of sea foam have covered a popular Queensland beach drawing some curious locals and tourists into the water.
The unusual weather phenomenon has been spotted in recent days as the east coast has been battered by heavy rain, strong winds and wild surf.
This morning waves of foam were washed across Currumbin Beach in the Gold Coast, with families and children spotted playing in the thick substance.

Australia s top coastal tourism destinations in northern NSW and southern Queensland have taken a beating from heavy rain and strong winds, and more wild weather – akin to a cyclone – is on the way.
Byron Bay s popular Clarkes Beach was smashed by strong winds, heavy rain and a king tide and most of the beach was washed into the ocean, in the lead-up to the Christmas holiday season.

Thousands of Brisbane homes and businesses are without power after fallen trees brought down power lines and flash flooding forced parts of the energy network to be shut off for safety reasons.
The king tide also engulfed stretches of sand across the state s south-east on Monday, with all Gold Coast beaches and most on the Sunshine Coast closed by surf lifesavers.

Entire beaches were left covered with foam, while Âothers were completely washed away as massive swells, squalling storms and frenetic winds battered the coast between the Fraser Coast and northern NSW. Parts of the southeast have recorded over 800mm of rain since Saturday morning, while the force of winds, which exceeded 60km/h at times, caused mayhem in ÂSurfers Paradise yesterday, with panes of glass blown from a high-rise to shatter on the streets below.
