KEIGHLEY has rallied in support of a national fundraising challenge launched today in honour of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore. A host of activities has been arranged across his home town in tribute to the war veteran, who last year captured the nation s hearts when he walked laps of his garden to mark his 100th birthday – and raised a staggering £38.9 million for NHS charities. He died in February. The Captain Tom 100 Challenge – a weekend of fundraising – was officially launched at Lord’s Cricket Ground today by members of his family. They presented Guy Lavender, chief executive and secretary of the MCC, with a framed photo of Captain Sir Tom – which was taken by Gavin Bond.

Image Source: IANS News Kohima/Shillong/Agartala, April 20 : With a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, the northeastern states have taken diverse actions, including imposition of night curfew and closure of educational institutions, to prevent the spread, officials said on Tuesday. The Nagaland and Tripura governments have ordered closures of educational institutions while the lower primary schools in Assam would be closed in the districts where 100 active Covid-19 cases are found in 10 days. In Meghalaya, the night curfew in East Khasi Hills District, in which capital Shillong falls, has been extended for another week until April 25. The state government also announced a series of measures, including banning entry of tourists from other states.

Parents must be involved in the education of their children

+ Programmes Director, School For Life, Madam Wedad Sayibu has advocated for parental involvement in the daily learning activities of their wards to enhance positive learning outcomes. She said her outfit has rolled out a programme to build the capacities of parents and teachers by creating a common platform for an effective parental guide to children’s learning cause. Madam Sayibu impressed on parents to give off their best to their studies at a two-day project design orientation workshop to launch the Parental Learning for Uninterrupted Schooling (PLUS) Project in Tamale. The event was to solicit input and generate ideas from key stakeholders on what innovative strategies should be used for effective implementation through the involvement of parents in the PLUS project.
