Morgan Wallen banned from Billboard Music Awards
E! Gabby Barrett is up for nine awards at the upcoming 2021
Billboard Music Awards ceremony, making her the most-mentioned country artist and female artist overall.
Gabbyâs up in categories such as Top Country Album, Top Country Artist and the all-genre Top New Artist, according to the list of finalists announced Thursday. The BBMAs will take place on Sunday, May 23, airing from Los Angelesâ Microsoft Theater beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
Another much-mentioned artist at this yearâs show is
Morgan Wallen, but he wonât be invited to the ceremony due to a late January incident in which he was filmed using the N-word as he said goodbye to friends after a night of partying.
Unlike other award shows, Billboard Music Awards nominees are not chosen by a voting committee or membership organization. Instead, as noted in the press release, finalists are determined by their Billboard Charts performance from March 21, 2020 to April 3, 2021, as well as by key fan interactions, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio airplay and social engagement. These metrics are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including MRC Data. The winners will be announced at the award show in Los Angeles on May 23.
This isn t the first time Wallen has been banned from an award show. On February 3, the Academy of Country Music announced it had halted the singer s potential involvement and eligibility in its 56th annual award show.
