School Board pushes for new elementary school in Fredericksburg
The Fredericksburg City Council and the city’s School Board are discussing building a new school in the city.
According to the letter sent to the council by the city School Board, schools have been experiencing overcrowding over the last few years. In the letter, the national average for a Kindergarten through fifth-grade elementary school is 403 students.
Fredericksburg two elementary schools have easily surpassed that number in the 2019-2020 school year.
Hugh Mercer Elementary, which has almost 1,000 students.
Lafayette Upper Elementary has nearly 800 students.
These counts illustrate that both schools have the biggest class size out of 1,185 elementary schools in Virginia, the letter states. Mercer has the largest first and second-grade classes, while Lafayette has the state’s largest third, fourth, and fifth-grade classes.
Some sixth graders from Kiski Area Upper Elementary were revved up for science class this week. Students participated in a new, hands-on, outdoor physics-based science class Thursday. They got a chance to check out some real race cars in a segment called “The Science of Racing,” which focused on engineering

VANCLEAVE, Miss. (WLOX) - Next week, people who live in the Jackson County School District will head to the polls to vote on a $67 million bond the district says will improve schools.
Since the bond was announced, opinions in the small communities of Vancleave, East Central, and St. Martin have been varied, with some people supporting the bond and others encouraging people to vote against it.

LIVINGSTON, Miss. (WJTV) Within just an hour of the 2021 Town of Livingston annual Farmers’ Market, people were showing up to eat, drink and shop by the dozen.
“It brings our community together,” said Lindsay Kellum, event coordinator. “With the pandemic, lots of local businesses we’re struggling and we couldn’t do it last year. We’re glad to have it back this year!”
It’s something that Reagan Josserand missed last year.
“We missed it a lot,” Josserand said. “It’s so nice to sit out here in this nice weather. All these people here, all these people around!”
