Charlotte convenience store attacked; fundraiser launched

Updated: 1:02 PM EDT Apr 5, 2021 WXII12.com Web Staff An Asian-owned convenience store in Charlotte was attacked on March 30, just a few weeks after a mass shooting killed multiple Asian women in Atlanta, NBC affiliate WCNC Charlotte reports.A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the owners, who believe they may have been attacked because of their race, according to WCNC Charlotte. The GoFundMe says Grace Lee Sung s uncle, who owns the store on Trade Street near the Charlotte Area Transportation Center Uptown, was the victim of the attack in which the suspect tore up the store with a metal bar. Surveillance camera footage captured the events. Sung said the suspect yelled anti-Asian racial slurs and other kinds of verbal abuse during the incident. Another person reportedly entered the store and yelled at the owner. Afterward, Sung said more men lined up at the doors, yelling across from broken glass and making sexual gestures while the owner and wife cleaned
