NEW ROCHELLE - Police Commissioner Joseph F. Schaller will retire, effective June 30, and will be succeeded by Robert Gazzola, currently the deputy commissioner, on July 1.
City Manager Charles B. Strome announced Schaller s retirement and Gazzola s appointment to the top job on Tuesday afternoon.
Strome said the city was fortunate to have had such a dedicated professional as Joe Schaller in our police department for so many years. His experience has been valuable during good and also some very difficult times, Strome said. I am pleased that Rob Gazzola will follow as commissioner, bringing his expertise to the position and insuring a seamless transition for the department.
