SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County s Chief Administrative Officer Helen Robbins-Meyer recommended spending $7.03 billion in fiscal year 2021-22 for the running of the county government Thursday, a 7.3% increase from this year.
The recommended budget represents a net increase of 660 additional staff years, excluding staff from the Air Pollution Control District which became an independent agency on March 1. I have fought since 2019 for our budgets to reflect the needs of our community and year-after-year we have successfully increased funding and services to ensure our residents, especially our most vulnerable, are being taken care of better than the year prior, said San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Nathan Flet
How is Los Angeles County beating San Diego to the yellow tier?
Los Angeles County could move into the yellow tier by next week if the area’s dramatic drop in COVID-19 cases continues while San Diego stays steady in orange tier. Author: Heather Hope (Reporter) Updated: 8:35 PM PDT April 30, 2021
SAN DIEGO If San Diego County has administered more vaccines and has had a lower case count than Los Angeles County throughout the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, then how is Los Angeles County poised to move up to California’s least restrictive yellow tier come next week? Week after week, recently these numbers prove the hard work that we re doing as a community. I’m grateful to everyone in this county, who’s played a part in getting us there,” said LA County Department of Public Health director Dr. Barbara Ferrer.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) Apple announced Monday its plans to increase the number of San Diego employees by over 5,000 by 2026.
The workforce increase in San Diego and several other locations is part of Apple s plan to invest $430 billion and add 20,000 new jobs across the United States over the next five years.
Apple is a bedrock of our community and we couldn’t be happier they have chosen to significantly expand and accelerate their growth here. This huge commitment to create 5,000 local jobs is a signal of great things to come and makes me even more confident the brightest days are yet ahead for San Diego, Mayor Todd Gloria said in a statement.
Apple first announced its plans for a San Diego engineering hub in 2018, pledging to add 1,200 employees. The announcement of 5,000 jobs is an about 500% increase from Apple’s initial projections for the San Diego market.
The company currently has office space in buildings on Towne Center Drive in University City, and construction of another building has caused speculation that Apple will expand its footprint on the block. As hiring increases, Apple will further compete against San Diego-based Qualcomm to lure local wireless talent.
