JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Duval County music teacher Levis Dasher died May 23 at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonville after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19-related complications.
The 57-year-old educator taught music and directed the band at Westview K-8 in the Duval County Public Schools district.
“He was just a staple here at our school,” Dasher’s colleague Brittiany Smalls said. “You just have no idea how much of a loss it is to not have somebody that was so important, so valuable.”

Last year, many Easter services were canceled or moved online due to COVID-19. Now that vaccines are available, churches are hoping to have a more normal celebration this year.
Easter, a major day of celebration for Christians worldwide, is about more than candy and Easter eggs.
âThatâs the day that we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He rose from the dead,â explained Rev. Hallie Tolbert, pastor of Westside Baptist Church in Killeen.
When COVID-19 first hit, the state shut down in an effort to slow the spread. Governor Greg Abbott allowed churches to remain open, but many decided to close or change their in-person services, including Easter Sunday services.
Wendell Clyde Garner, age 74 of Boaz, Alabama died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Marshall Medical Center South, Boaz, Al.
He was born December 17, 1946 in Boaz, Alabama. He came to know the Lord as his Savior as a child and joined Westside Baptist Church.
After marriage he joined Red Apple Baptist Church and held different positions.
He later became a member of Bethsaida Baptist Church of Boaz. He loved the Lord. He loved his pastor and especially his humor. He came to love the members of the church and helped with many projects his wife got him into.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Boaz, with Boaz Carr Funeral Home Directing.
