THIS is everything that s been heard in the latest murder trial this week. Basildon Crown Court heard that a homeless man murdered his friend by stamping on him over him allegedly stealing a phone. Lucasz Kustra is standing trial for the murder of Wojciech Miecznikowski following an incident near Westcliff Library on Fleetwood Avenue last year. It is alleged that the 37-year-old, of no fixed address, attacked Mr Miecznikowski when they were drinking in the street with other men outside the library on September 22, 2020. Basildon Crown Court heard that a woman was walking by the scene at around 12.30pm where she saw the victim lying on the pavement with a pool of blood around his head.
The jury was previously told that Kustra and Mr Miecnikowski had both been homeless and would regularly drink outside Westcliff Library on the road. The court heard that another man that they drank with had accused Mr Miecnikowski of stealing his phone, a claim that he denied. But after the man questioned him about this, Kustra allegedly attacked him, and Mr Miecnikowski was found with blood on his head and surrounding him on the pavement. Mr Gair asked Dr Cieka what his cause of death was. The doctor replied: “The cause of death was severe blunt force head injuries.” Mr Miecznikowski was flown to the Royal London Hospital via air ambulance, but was declared dead on September 25 last year.
Southend Council’s new initiative hopes to ensure diverse communities have equal access to Covid testing facilities. The scheme saw 300 boxes containing 2,100 lateral flow (LFD) test kits delivered to Southend Mosque in West Road, Westcliff. The test kits are for worshippers during Ramadan, which began on April 12 and finishes on May 12. Test kits will also be distributed to Southend’s two other mosques – The Essex Jamme Masjid Trust on Chelmsford Avenue and Faizane Medina Masjid on Milton Road, and will be replenished when stocks are low. Imam Iftikhar Ul Haque, of the UK Islamic Mission Southend Masjid, said: “These new rapid tests will help identify more people carrying the virus without symptoms and stop the spread of the infection.
