Testing underway for Gold Line streetcar months before opening to public

CHARLOTTE, N.C. It s been years in the making, but now you will see a modern streetcar being tested through uptown Charlotte at night.
Phase two of the Gold Line could open to the public as soon as late-April or early-May, according to CATS Gold Line project manager David McDonald.
For the next several weeks to months, crews will be testing one of the six streetcars as part of the procedure before they open the route up to the public.

SAN ANTONIO – The owners of Fat Tummy Empanadas have kept bellies full and people smiling for the last three years.
Co-owner Norah Saleh said the restaurant, located on South Murry and West Commerce, gained popularity after being featured on the Food Network.
Since then, they have catered to local leaders like Mayor Ron Nirenberg and big names like former Spurs basketball player Tony Parker.
“It’s good to see smiling faces. They say we’re awesome, we love you,” Saleh said.

Almost as soon as you head west from uptown Charlotte into the historic Biddleville neighborhood, you’re greeted with public art.
As construction crews worked on West Trade Street near where an extension of the Gold Line Streetcar is coming on a recent morning, color popped behind them. On the side of Johnson C. Smith University’s Arts Factory, a beaming mural showed off past and contemporary scenes from the city’s Historic West End.
