LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The union representing registered nurses and other staff at three Hospital Corporation of America facilities in Southern California have reached a tentative agreement with the company aimed at improving COVID-19 safety and averting a possible strike.
The covered nurses and licensed medical professionals work at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Riverside Community Hospital and West Hills Hospital and Medical Center, representatives of Service Employees International Union Local 121RN said. The members are scheduled to vote to ratify the contract Dec. 22 and 23.
Saturday s tentative agreement concluded 102 hours of negotiations since Dec. 11, after members voted to authorize a strike and a federal mediator was brought in to help resolve issues.

Ventura County added 715 new COVID-19 cases Friday and counted the highest number of hospitalized patients yet amid the resurgent coronavirus outbreak.
Friday s report followed 731 confirmed infections added Thursday, according to county public health data.
The new cases bring the county s cumulative total to 29,358 since the first coronavirus infection was reported here on March 6. Some 25,837 residents have recovered. Another 3,311 people with active cases remained under quarantine Friday, a significant decrease since Monday, when 7,300 residents were under quarantine.

Cohen died Thursday of complications from COVID-19 at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Los Angeles, his family announced.

Nurses at two hospitals in the Valley region have called a 10-day strike from Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 to protest unfair labor practices.
The two facilities – Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks and West Hills Hospital and Medical Center – are owned by Nashville-based Hospital Corporation of America, or HCA. Members of the Southern California Registered Nurse Union gave the company advanced notice to bring in temporary replacement staff in light of the pandemic, Service Employees International Union 121 said.
Negotiations will continue through the advance notice period, the union said, and a federal mediator will be brought on for the process.
