New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court on Friday (July 2, 2021) ordered the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal Government to provide security to West Bengal Assembly’s leader of opposition and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari. The High Court ordered the state government to reinstate the security it withdrew from Suvendu Adhikari.
While hearing Suvendu Adhikari’s security case, a single bench of Justice Shivkant Prasad ruled that the security of the BJP MLA lies on the shoulders of the state and it should be the state government who needs to ensure Adhikari is not exposed to the threat.
The Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led state government launching a separate portal for COVID vaccination Benvax instead of Cowin is illegal. Briefing mediapersons here, Adhikari said, I have written about the COVID vaccination scam in the West Bengal to Union health Ministry. The Union Health Minister told me that State Government has sent an interim report. A copy will be sent to me. There is only one vaccination portal - Cowin. But, the West Bengal Government has initiated a separate application namely Benvax . It is illegal. I have complained in this regard to the Union Health Minister. He accepted and ordered an inquiry.

The Supreme Court today issued a notice to the West Bengal Government on a fresh petition seeking imposition of the President s rule in the state and a court-monitored SIT probe into the alleged post-poll violence against those who voted for the BJP.
A Bench led by Justice Vineet Saran agreed to hear the petition filed by advocate Ranjana Agnihotri and social worker Jitender Singh who sought a direction to the Centre to impose the President s rule in West Bengal in view of deteriorating law and order situation.
The SC also issued notices to the Centre and the Election Commission. However, it chose not to issue notice to Mamata Banerjee.

Darjeeling (West Bengal) [India], July 1 (ANI): The traders of Darjeeling appeal for maximum vaccination drive against the COVID-19 to boost the inflow of tourists here.
Darjeeling, a famous hilly tourist destination in West Bengal has been impacted badly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The hotels, restaurants, and markets have been desolated. As a result, people related to the industry have been going through very tough times.
Speaking to ANI, Amit Rai, a hotel manager said, Basically the middle class and lower economic class people are much affected due to the lockdown. The entire Darjeeling hills is dependent on tourists. Tourists are not coming. Shops and restaurants are seen empty. In this situation, the government should focus on maximum vaccination drive.
