The Western Regional Directorate of the Rent Control Department recorded low rent cases in 2020 as against 2019.
A statistical report issued by a Senior Executive Officer of the Department, Mr Courage Cornelius Sonu to the Ghana News Agency, indicated that a total of 700 cases were recorded in 2020 as against 902 in 2019.
According to him, a total of 520 cases were settled successfully by the the rent office as against 700 in 2019, with 50 cases pending as complainants failed to follow-up with their complaints as against 202 in 2019.
He said 130 cases were referred to the magistrate court for settlement.
Mr Sonu said 420 cases out of the 700 were complaints from landlords, with the remaining 280 coming from tenants.

Takoradi FDA exceeds target for the year
The Western Regional Head of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Abu Sumaila, has disclosed that despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Authority has exceeded the target set for the year.
He attributed the success to the hard work, dedicated service, and teamwork exhibited by the staff and expressed the hope that staff would maintain and improve upon it going into 2021.
He observed that sustenance was key in every success achieved and pleaded with the staff to do well to sustain what they have been able to achieve to enable the Authority to attain its mission.
Takoradi MP embarks on thanksgiving tour
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Takoradi Constituency has embarked on a thanksgiving tour to thank the electorate in Takoradi for reposing yet another confidence in him in the just-ended 2020 elections.
He also thanked the constituents for having confidence in its 2020 Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo by renewing his mandate for another deserving term for him to do more.
Mr Darko-Mensah who is also the Western Regional Minister expressed gratitude to God and the people in the Region for the peaceful conduct of the polls, which further deepened Ghana’s enviable reputation as the citadel of democracy on the continent of Africa and beyond.
