Some Yoruba self-determination groups have pledged to defend the region against invasion.
Yorubaland has been under attack by rampaging killer herdsmen accused of worsening insecurity in the region by raping, abducting and killing indigenes.
The groups urged South-West monarchs not to hesitate to invite any of them if the security of any indigene was threatened by invaders anywhere in the region. They also threw their weight behind the Western Nigerian Security Network, Amotekun.
The groups comprising the Odua Peoples Congress, Agbekoya, Hunters Group, Isokan Ile Yoruba, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Ibarapa Group and the Community Society Awareness Initiative, stated this in a communiqué issued after a security meeting held on Friday in Lagos.

The Oyo State chapter of Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) has described the N1 billion security vote given to Governor Seyi Makinde monthly as meaningless. SPN alleged that the rising insecurity in the state in the last few weeks has exposed the inadequacies of the Makinde led administration in the area of security. Our correspondent reports that Oyo State has witnessed a series of unrest, kidnapping, attacks on citizens and killing in major towns and cities in the state due to poor security network in the state. The SPN claimed it was unfortunate that Makinde failed to curb the spate of insecurity in the state especially in Oke Ogun and Ibarapa geo-political zones, despite the huge security votes allocated to him.

A source had told TheCable that during a meeting of south-west governors in Akure, Ondo state capital, on Monday, Igboho was tipped to head the local security outfit.
But while reacting to the proposal, Igboho said it will be a distraction.
“I am not interested in being the commander of Amotekun. I don’t seek such relevance. What I am saying is that the Fulani herders that are terrorising my people should leave our land,” he said.
