The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) Chief Executive Dr. Anne Kilgallen has announced her plan to retire this summer. Speaking to staff today (Wednesday) Dr Anne Kilgallen said: “I want you to know that I plan to retire this summer and having just celebrated my sixtieth birthday I know that the time is right to do so. “My retirement may still be some months away but I felt it important to maintain openness in how we as an organisation communicate. We will soon commence a process to recruit my successor and I have no doubt that someone very good will take up the reins into the future. I will brief you further on this when I have more detail.

New wing at the local hospital is now operational

Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry has a new main entrance.
The impressive entrance is part of the new North Wing of the hospital which is now fully operational.
It represents a major transformation of the local hospital.
As well as the new main entrance, the wing also has six new wards spanning over three floors.
The building was designed by local architecture practice, HLM Architects.
Three of the 24-bed wards became operational in April of this year as HLM worked with the Western Trust and the contractor to fast-track the project in order to assist the Trust in managing the Covid-19 surge capacity at the hospital.
