Activists of V4People organised an innovative protest in West Kochi on Sunday, led by an activist who towed a hatchback car from Perumpadapu bridge to the open air ground at Palluruthy, to protest against the frequent hike in fuel prices in the country.
It is shocking that the BJP, which once used to cry foul when fuel prices were hiked, maintains a deceptive silence when the Central government led by it is hiking fuel prices like never before. This is nothing but cheating the masses, said leaders who participated in the agitation.

Of the ₹1,000 crore outlay for the Smart Cities Mission in the city, projects worth around ₹100 crore of the total cost are complete nearly five years after Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML), the special purpose vehicle executing the project, was formed.

The police have announced traffic guidelines to be followed in the city ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kochi on Sunday.
The traffic restrictions along areas including Naval Base, Vathuruthy, BOT East, Thevara Ferry Junction, and Kundannoor will be in place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Vehicles heading towards West Kochi from Ernakulam should take SA Road, Vyttila, Kundannoor flyover, Aroor and Edakochi while vehicles in the opposite direction to Ernakulam and Alappuzha should proceed through Edakochi and Aroor. Commuters bound for Ernakulam from West Kochi and in the return direction could also take the ferry service by going through Goshree road and Vypeen.

The three decentralised sewerage treatment systems for West Kochi under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) scheme have hit a funding hurdle, further delaying the project that was conceived in 2016.
With the rate quoted by the three contractors being higher than the estimated cost, the State government and the Kochi Corporation are now going to have to decide who will bear the excess cost. The proposed treatment plants are to come up in Edakochi North, Edakochi South, and Perumpadappu.
