Alleged tresspass into land where soil excavation was on for Water Metro project
The Kerala High Court has dismissed a petition filed by V4 leader Nipun Cheriyan seeking to quash a criminal case registered against him for trespassing into the land where soil excavation was being undertaken for geotechnical analysis for the proposed Water Metro project and destroying the soil samples collected.
The petitioner contended that he was only trying to prevent Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) from constructing a bund on the Chilavannur lake, violating stop memos issued by the Revenue authorities. He alleged that he was being victimised for espousing a public cause.

The V4People party would continue their efforts to highlight people’s issues while also exposing inefficiency and corruption, notwithstanding their performance in the Assembly polls, said campaign controller Nipun Cherian.
The party had fielded candidates in three constituencies in Ernakulam district, with ‘ship’ as the symbol. In Kochi, Mr. Cherian came fifth in the vote tally.
In December 2020, V4Kochi (which went on to become V4People) had won 10.20% of the vote share in the local body polls in Kochi, within three months of its formation and stood second in three constituencies.

LDF candidate registers impressive with a margin of 14,079 votes
K.J. Maxy, Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate in Kochi, registered one of the most impressive victories in Ernakulam district, romping home with a margin of 14,079 votes against his immediate UDF rival Tony Chammany.
That he increased his margin by almost 14-fold from a slender margin of 1,086 votes against UDF candidate Dominic Presentation in 2016 puts his victory in perspective.
He managed to secure 54,632 votes against 40,553 votes secured by Mr. Chammany. Mr. Maxy held on to his lead from the very outset and did not concede it at any point.

‘Elections come only every five years but we have to co-exist all the time’
The road leading up to St. Thomas LPS at North Palluruthy, a polling booth in Kochi Assembly constituency, offered a refreshing sight with the political party booths of both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) sitting cheek by jowl with little animosity among the respective party workers.
Usually, such booths set up on the polling day are separated by a fair distance with little interactions between the camps, reflecting the intensity of the electoral battle under way. But not in this booth 86 of North Palluruthy where the UDF and LDF booths are set up right next to each other.
