Sam Bird backs plans for eGrand Prix in Bournemouth

FORMULA E driver and current leader of the World Championship, Sam Bird, has backed plans for a ‘Monaco’ style eGrand Prix in Bournemouth, saying he saw no reason why the town couldn’t host an “amazing event”. Sam, from Poole, said he would love a race “on my doorstep” and wanted to offer his help to push the idea forward. He said: “I have been involved in Formula E since its inception, I am the only driver to have done every race, every single season. “For it to come to Bournemouth, to bring business to local businesses, for electric mobility to be showcased within Bournemouth would be great.”

Man jailed for crime spree in Bournemouth and Christchurch

Kai Leonard Little, 23 and of no fixed abode, was jailed for a spate of crimes A MAN has been jailed for eight months for a five-month crime spree which saw him commit a burglary, theft, criminal damage and assault offences. Kai Leonard Little was put behind bars after he pleaded guilty to 11 charges along with two court order breaches. The 23-year-old was not present at the Poole Magistrates’ Court sentencing hearing on April 27 when he was committed to prison for the spate of offending. Following his conviction, prosecutors have made an application for a criminal behaviour order to be issued.

Bournemouth Folk Club gig taking place in Westbourne

BOURNEMOUTH Folk Club is back with its first gig for more than a year later this month at a brand new venue. Husband and wife duo Will Finn and Rosie Calvert will be appearing at St Ambrose Church in Westbourne on Thursday May 20. The acclaimed north east-based couple will perform folk and traditional songs in a socially-distanced show at the spacious West Cliff Road church. Tickets for the 8pm performance in the Grade II listed building are limited and available now. Will and Rosie are graduates of the Folk and Traditional Music BA at Newcastle University and have been taking the festival circuit by storm with their acapella harmony quartet, folk scene favourites The Teacups for the past ten years.

Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, grew from a short story into a novel, and was initially published without an author’s name. Shelley s success however, was short-lived as tragedy struck her family. Following Percy Bysshe s death in 1822, Mary returned to England with their son Percy. In 1849, Sir Percy Florence Shelley bought Boscombe Cottage, which had been built in 1801, and he intended to turn it into a home for his mother, but Mary died from a brain tumour in 1851.
