Cedar Hill Kicker, Jadon Cardell, Is Prepared For Championship Moment
(CEDAR HILL, TEXAS) Jadon Cardell runs the scenario through his mind on a regular basis.
The Longhorns are tied, or trailing by a point or two, and it’s fourth down at the homefield of the Dallas Cowboys.
There are five seconds or less in the game, and the only thing standing between the Cedar Hill High School Football Team’s fourth state championship is a field goal sailing through the uprights.
“I embrace it,” said Cardell, a senior kicker/punter. “I definitely think about it every game, how this may be the game where I’m put in the situation to win it. The pressure is there, but I try to block out the pressure and focus on making the field goal.”
The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District is organizing COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the Abilene Convention Center – when the state releases doses here. We have completed a state survey letting them know of our capacity to conduct mass vaccination clinics and are continuing to plan and prepare for this, but do not have a time frame of when we can expect to receive additional vaccines, public health director Annette Lerma said.
The Texas Department of State Health Services announced Thursday that next week it will direct most of the COVID-19 vaccine received from the federal government to large providers who can vaccinate a total of more than 100,000 people, according to a news release.
The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District on Thursday reported three deaths linked to COVID-19, 163 new cases and 103 recoveries.
The deceased – one man in his 60s and two men in their 80s – bring the total number of county deaths to 210. The three men had preexisting health conditions, officials said.
The 163 new cases are based on 59 polymerase chain reaction tests and 104 antigen tests.
Active cases total 2,066 (830 PCR cases and 1,236 antigen cases). A week ago on Dec. 31, combined active cases numbered 2,198.
The number of COVID-19 inpatients at Abilene facilities is 129, which is eight fewer than reported Wednesday. The inpatients include 38 out-of-county residents.
Hendrick Health System on Wednesday reported the COVID-19 inpatients number for Abilene s trauma service area was 23.54% of the area s total hospital beds, up from its Tuesday report of 22.07% and the highest mark to date.
COVID-19: Taylor County adds 2 deaths, 96 cases Wednesday
Hendrick Health System expects COVID-19 hospitalizations to surpass 200 after Christmas and New Year s Day holidays, according to a video statement from medical director Dr. Robert Wiley.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 39 of the 154 total COVID-19 inpatients at its facilities are on ventilators, and there are no ICU beds, he said. These are our parents, our grandparents, our friends within our community, Wiley said.
Patients will be on ventilators for two to four weeks, but half of these patients will not come off ventilators. That is a significant number, Wiley said.
In the Emergency Room, 16 patients, some not positive for COVID-19, have been waiting two to 12 hours for a hospital bed, Wiley said.
