Under a slate gray sky, a small band of volunteers in hot pink T-shirts set out on a recovery mission. They followed fresh footprints on a map of bone-white snow.
Tuesday marked the Forever Sammi Foundationâs fourth annual clothing and blanket drive for the homeless. It was the first with no clothing and blankets.
Instead, volunteers packed durable plastic pouches with winter hats, gloves, socks, disposable face masks, hand sanitizer and information on where to turn for help in a hard world. Many of the foundationâs volunteers are recovering addicts whose service to others is essential to staying sober.
