The Emmy-winning actress is tapping into her dramatic side for this dark comedy.
Kevin Can F k Himself follows the story of Allison McRoberts (Murphy), a woman filling the role of a âprototypical sitcom wife,â a figure we all believed we knew growing up. Usually the butt of the joke, sheâs beautiful and married to a man who is not so much her equal in that department.
When Allison is outside of her husbandâs domain, that veneer fades and sheâll wake up to and revolt against the injustices her life has faced her with. The series blends multi-camera comedy with single-camera realism, breaking television convention to pose the question, âwho and what have we been laughing at all of these years?â

At some point, certain sitcoms adopted a formula: an oafish, kind-of-husky husband is married to the perfect wife. The perfect wife who puts up with the male lead’s constant bullshit, no matter what. Now here comes

Television has long progressed beyond the need for the Doting Housewife-Selfish Buffoon Husband trope that has permeated the airspace since family sitcoms were a thing. At first glance, AMC’s revenge drama,
Kevin Can F k Himself, looks like more of the same as Alison (Emmy winner and
Schitt’s Creek alum Annie Murphy) prepares a loving breakfast for her husband, Kevin (Eric Petersen). But when Kevin fails to show even a modicum of appreciation for his wife’s hard work, the laugh track stops and the mood visibly shifts into something deadly. AMC dropped the trailer for their upcoming dark dramedy
Kevin Can F–k Himself, starring the 34-year-old actress.
Here’s the show’s synopsis via Deadline: “
Kevin Can F–k Himself probes the secret life of a type of woman we all grew up believing we knew: the sitcom wife (
Murphy). It looks to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes. Alternating between single-camera realism and multi-camera comedy, the formats will inform one another as we imagine what happens when the sitcom wife escapes her confines, and takes the lead in her own life.”
