Recently members of Boy Scout Troop 140 Saint Mary Magdalen Church, Oakville celebrated one of its members becoming a United States citizen.
Mary Jane Concepcion of Watertown was summoned to Immigration Court in Hartford and thought she was headed to another interview. To her surprise her appointment was a swearing in ceremony. Originally from Baguio City, Philippines Mary Jane migrated to this country for a better job opportunities. Her path to citizenship began over 16 years ago. During that time, she has raised two children born in the United States, Marcus and Matteo, who are members of Boy Scout Pack and Troop 140. Mary Jane has been a driver and leader on Scout trips to Niagara Falls, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, New York, Washington D.C. and many others. Her reason for wanting to be part of these trips was to learn as much as she could about the United States. She told Scouts standing there that day with other new American citizens, she felt like a different

Shirley Fusco
OAKVILLE – Shirley (Gangloff) Fusco, of Oakville, passed away unexpectedly in her home on Sunday, March 28, 2021. She was the widow of Michael Fusco, her husband of 55 years.
Shirley was born in Waterbury on Feb. 11, 1941, daughter of the late Paul Gangloff and Catherine Rivard. She attended Waterbury schools and was a parishioner of St. Anne’s Church.
Known as a valued worker, she was employed at Coats of North America (formerly Heminway & Bartlett), until her retirement after 32 years. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, Pokeno, going to tag sales and spending time with her family and friends.
She was beautiful soul who brought a smile to the face of everyone who was lucky enough to know her, and she will be sorely missed.
