EDITORIAL: Another day, another preventable crash at the bridge in Glenville

EDITORIAL: Another day, another preventable crash at the bridge in Glenville | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS The Glenridge Road rail overpass in Glenville is struck with such frequency, we’re beginning to think that when a truck hits the bridge, an angel gets its wings. It’s the only reasonable explanation left for why despite signs warning drivers about the approaching bridge and other obvious indications of a low bridge ahead, trucks keep hitting it, often tearing the tops off their cargo containers like the foil lid on your yogurt cup. It happened again Tuesday afternoon, when yet another truck failed to squeeze under the 10-foot-11-inch gap between the road below and the Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks above.

Officials call for state corrective action after latest tractor-trailer bridge strike in Glenville

Officials call for state corrective action after latest tractor-trailer bridge strike in Glenville | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 GLENVILLE – After about 100 tractor-trailer strikes and turnarounds in the Canadian Pacific Railroad bridge’s existence on Glenridge Road, local officials are calling for the state and the rail company to take action in the wake of this week’s latest accident. Town Supervisor Christopher Koetzle and the local legislative delegation said they want the state to close the underpass to truck traffic and raise the 10-foot, 11-inch bridge to a height that would be safer, as determined by traffic engineers. All of the roads involved are owned by the state and county and would require state Department of Transportation  involvement to coordinate and execute a solution, officials said.

Clifton Park community celebrates Fourth of July with parade

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — The Clifton Park community celebrated the Fourth of July in its traditional fashion this year, with crowds of people gathered for a parade, fireworks and more. After a scaled-down celebration in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local leaders were thrilled to once again present the full-blown patriotic festival this Independence Day. “We weren’t sure this year how big the parade might be, coming off obviously a difficult past year and a half for our community and society, but boy it was fantastic,” Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett said during a ceremony at Clifton Common immediately following the parade. “It’s great to see so many people here and celebrating what it is to be an American, and to show appreciation for everything we have as Americans.”
