CPI leader and Pattom counsellor PK Raju will be the Deputy Mayor in the Corporation.
Earlier, the CPI(M) had chosen Arya Rajendran as it s mayor candidate to contest in the election among councillors. After the NDA and UDF decided to field candidates for the post, an election was necessary to choose the mayor.
Ms. Rajendran was sworn in as the Mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram city Corporation.
Twenty one-year-old Arya Rajendran was sworn in as the Mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram city Corporation, after she secured 54 votes in the 100-member Council in the election held on the morning of December 28. She is the youngest to become Mayor till date in the country.
Ms. Arya, a Councillor of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has 52 seats in the Council, got the support of three independent Councillors too. Vote cast by the LDF Councillor from the Kachani ward was declared invalid, as she failed to put down her name and affix signature on the ballot paper.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Arya Rajendran, a 21-year-old BSc Mathematics student, was sworn in as the mayor of Thiruvananthapuram city corporation on Monday. She is currently the youngest mayor in office of a municipal corporation in the country.
UDF and BJP had fielded candidates for the mayoral election. Arya won by 54 votes while BJP candidate Simi Jyothish got 35 votes. UDF candidate Mary Pushpam won 9 votes. One vote was invalid and one councillor was absent from the session since she was under quarantine.
Arya s parents Rajendran and Sreelatha both party activists for a long time, stood proudly near the dais watching their youngest daughter swear in as the mayor of city corporation. Thiruvananthapuram is the biggest municipal corporation among six corporations in Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram has a total of 100 wards.
