The Gardner Scene: Gas and service stations of Gardner, Part 3 Mike Richard Special for The Gardner News Editor’s note: This is the third of a six-part series on gas and service stations of Gardner. Before the current Route 2 was built in 1963, the old Route 2 in and out of Gardner headed from the Westminster line down East Broadway and then out to Templeton via West Broadway. Both thoroughfares featured numerous gas stations in their day. East Broadway 80 East Broadway – Kendall’s Service Station. Harry Kendall operated a gas station at this location the longest from 1952 to 1955. Initially, it was brothers Stan and Elroy Pettengill who ran Stan and Roy’s Service Station there in 1946. Later, it was Shell Oil Co., Richard Brothers Service Station and a business owned by Raymond Bourn in 1950.

Cyclists ride from Austin to Iowa for charity

(ABC 6 News) - Many bikers in Austin are gathering for a good cause.  More than 300 bikers are taking part in a 60 mile trip around Southeast Minnesota and Iowa this weekend. They re raising awareness for multiple sclerosis (MS). The Bike MS: Ride Across MN event is extending North and South of Austin.  We spoke to a woman at the event who s done this for years.  She s been taking part since 1990 and at 68, nothing is stopping her from having a good time.  Everybody had fun in Austin. Austin, you have to be really happy,  give yourself a pat on the back. We love coming here, you always do a great job. So Thank you, Austin Minnesota, Mary Nelson said.
