Taylor Bornds, Baptist Prep softball: Bornds homered and drove in two runs in the Class 3A title game, helping Baptist Prep notch a 9-1 victory over Hoxie.

Members of the Indigenous community woke up on May 6 to find their Instagram posts for National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Native Women and Girls had disappeared. After months of planning and events leading up to May 5, the day of recognition, activists, educators, families, community organizations, and more had shared infographics, resources, and stories to help get the word about the epidemic of missing and murdered Native women, girls, relatives and Two Spirit Peoples on Instagram. Stories were posted with several hashtags including “MMIW” for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, “MMIR” for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives or Relations, and “MMIWG2S” for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

It’s that time of the year when the significance of a free press is brought to the fore. Globally known as World Press Freedom Day, it is a day set aside to celebrate press freedom by reminding governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom, and as well remind media professionals of issues of press freedom and their respect for ethics.
As announced by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, the theme of this year’s commemoration is Information as a Public Good. This is an auspicious nudge for media professionals to acknowledge their importance in the society and take pleasure in their role as source of news and information in the society. Last Mother’s Day, they celebrated with bacon and eggs over FaceTime. This time, Jean Codianni of Los Angeles flew to New Jersey to surprise her 74-year-old mother, now that both have been vaccinated against the disease that has stolen uncountable hugs and kisses around the world.
“You forget how your mom smells, how she looks. It’s like, she never looks as beautiful as the last time you saw her,” Codianni said. “We understand how privileged we are, how lucky we are. Hundreds of thousands of people don’t get to celebrate Mother’s Day, or are celebrating it under a veil of grief.”
