(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Lagos State Government has handed over the amputee sachet water hawker, Mary Daniel, to leaders of Igala Community in Lagos State.
Princess Aderemi Adebowale, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Civic Engagement, said that the state government would continue to protect all residents in the state, especially the vulnerable.
Adebowale made this known in a statement signed by Mr Sola Ogunmosunle, Director, Public Affairs Department, Office of Civic Engagement, on Thursday in Lagos.
African Examiner reports that 27-years-old Daniel, whose story has gone viral particularly on social media, had been in the safe custody of the state government for the past two weeks.

Lagos State government has handed over Mary Daniel, the amputee sachet water hawker, to the leader of Igala (Kogi State) community in Lagos State, Mr Sanni Yakubu Ejima, assuring that it would continue to protect all residents in the state, especially the vulnerable.
The Special Adviser (SA), Office of Civic Engagement, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, disclosed this, on Thursday, in a statement made available to newsmen.
It would be recalled that Miss Daniel, whose story had attracted widespread attention, particularly in the social media, had been in the safe custody of the state government in the past two weeks.

The Lagos State government has denied withholding the N25 million donation made to Mary Daniel, a 26-year-old amputee, whose story went viral about two weeks ago when photos of her selling bottled water in traffic were shared on the social media.
The amputee, who claims to be a single-mother and orphan, shared the story of how she lost her leg in an accident. Her parents also died in the accident and is left to cater for daughter and aged grandmother all alone, she narrated.
Since then, well-meaning Nigerians have donated funds for her to get her off the streets. The Lagos State government, through the office of civic engagement, also took the amputee in and catered for her welfare.
