She got game: the tale of Paige Bueckers

If you could not already tell, this is the current resume of University of Connecticut star, Paige Bueckers. She has gathered these awards, along with a number of others, since the start of her freshman year at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota.  During her time at Hopkins, she quickly rose to stardom and into national headlines. She was a phenom earlier than most. Her first year at that level came as an eighth grader, when she averaged 8.9 PPG, 3.5 RPG and 2.1 SPG. 

Bueckers wins Wooden Award, completes sweep of national honors

Copy shortlink: SAN ANTONIO Paige Bueckers swept all the national player of the year awards for which she was eligible, as she was announced the first freshman to win the Wooden Award for the country s most outstanding player Monday evening. Bueckers previously won the USBWA s Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, the Naismith Trophy and the AP national player of the year. She was also the first freshman to take home those honors. Freshmen are not eligible for the Wade Trophy, which was awarded to Baylor junior NaLyssa Smith. Three other Huskies have won the Wooden Award a total of five times: Maya Moore (2009, 2011), Tina Charles (2010) and Breanna Stewart (2015, 2016).

Minnesota Scene: Bueckers wins USBWA s Drysdale award

Bueckers, from Hopkins High, also has won the Naismith Trophy and Associated Press player of the year award. The 5-11 Bueckers averaged 20 points per game, and averaged 21.6 points in the Huskies run to the Final Four. UConn (28-2) fell to No. 3 seed Arizona in the national semifinals. DenHartog lifts Gophers Amber Fiser and Autume Pease combined on a three-hitter, and Natalie DenHartog s two-run homer was the key hit for the Gophers in a 2-1 softball victory over Purdue on Sunday at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium.

Storm signs Haley Gorecki  - Seattle Storm

Seattle Storm SEATTLE, Wash. The Seattle Storm announced today that the team has signed guard Haley Gorecki to a training camp contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.  “I’m so excited and grateful to have this opportunity,” Gorecki said. “I am looking forward to proving myself at training camp and I cannot wait to be out in Seattle.” The Storm selected Gorecki in the third round of the 2020 WNBA draft with the No. 31 overall pick. In 2020, she played overseas in Spain for Casedemont Zaragoza, averaging 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.  Gorecki averaged a career-high 18.5 points and 4.4 assists per game in her final year at Duke University. In back-to-back seasons, she led the Blue Devils in average points, rebounds and assists. A top-5 finalist for the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and two-time All-ACC First Team selection, Gorecki also garnered 2020 All-ACC Defensive Team honors.

Osborne Named to Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Top 10 Watch List

Feb 2, 2021 Springfield, Mass. – Charisma Osborne has been tabbed to the 2021 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Top Watch List, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and The Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Tuesday. Osborne is one of 10 players to be named to the current watch list for the top shooting guard in women s NCAA Division I college basketball.   Osborne has performed as one of the best guards in the country throughout the 2020-21 season. She opened her sophomore campaign with a 31-point outing in UCLA s victory over Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 27), and has gone on to lead the Pac-12 in scoring with 19.3 points per game. She has notched at least 20 points in each of her last five games, helping to lead UCLA to five-straight victories and the No. 5 spot on the most recent AP Top 25 poll.
