Rod Franz has resigned from his position as Salina City Commissioner, according to a letter from his family sent to Mayor Melissa Hodges.
A letter submitted on Wednesday said this decision comes after he suffered a fall on April 6. The letter listed Chris Franz, Brian Franz and Gayle Martin as his powers of attorney. This move will allow Rod, his family, and partner to concentrate on his recovery, the letter said.
Rod Franz, who was elected to the commission in November 2019, was the finance director for the city from 1996 until his retirement in 2016. Rod s entire career and retirement years are devoted to public service and doing what is best for his community, the letter said. We thank you, his fellow city commissioners, city staff and advisory board members for their past and future professionalism and assistance in emulating his devotion and leadership.
In response to a Supreme Court ruling, the city council has adopted new criteria for signs permitted throughout Dublin.
In a 5-0 vote, the councilâs decision will amend restrictions on âcontent-basedâ signs, such as those of a political or religious nature, to avoid limiting freedom of speech.
The move follows the landmark case of Reed vs the Town of Gilbert, in which the high court ruled that political and other types of signs on residential property are protected under the First Amendment. The case involved a traveling preacher who wanted to put up signs around a town in Arizona to let people know where he would be holding services. It had far-reaching impacts on sign regulations throughout the country. As a result, local jurisdictions have had to adjust to avoid legal challenges.
