Ontario COVID-19 reopening plan unknown, province remains tight-lipped

  TORONTO Ontario s stay-at-home order is expected to be extended until at least June in an effort to further drive down the third COVID-19 pandemic wave. However, municipal officials, business owners, and residents have been increasingly demanding transparency and clarity for which benchmarks will lead to a reopening. But there are more factors that need to be considered, including the percentage of the population vaccinated, the impact on our health-care system and how much the virus is spreading. As well, the public health unit says it expects to make vaccine appointments available to anyone 16 years of age and older, regardless of postal code, as of Wednesday, May 19. This will be dependent entirely on vaccine supply. The region has been accepting appointments for those 40 and up as well as 50 and up who cannot work from home.

  TORONTO Every person 18 and over in Peel Region will be eligible to book their COVID-19 vaccine starting tomorrow. Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie made the announcement on Wednesday, saying that all residents will be eligible regardless of whether or not they live in a hot spot. I m going to say it again and again and again because it makes me so happy, Crombie said. We will all be eligible for the vaccine as of 8 a.m. tomorrow.
