Kiely says there are “multiple ways one can defend oneself. For example, applying to the Integrity Commission, Ombudsman’s Office, Municipal Affairs. Council chose to interpret and subsequently misrepresent my communication to them as a threat of legal action. It was not. Neither myself nor my lawyer believe that legal action is necessary or in the best interest of the municipality. I want to note that I paid my own lawyer’s fees and am not taking action at the expense of the Town.
