Navy awards contract for Camp Blaz EOD compound Staff reports The Navy this week awarded a $25 million contract for a project related to the Guam military buildup. Honolulu-based Hensel Phelps Construction Co. will design and build a Combined Explosives Ordnance Disposal compound at Camp Blaz, which is the new Marine Corps base under construction in Dededo. The project has an expected completion date of October 2023. Marines from Okinawa and elsewhere are scheduled to arrive on Guam in significant numbers, beginning 2025, after Camp Blaz is completed. The base was officially activated Oct. 1, 2020, and an activation ceremony is expected in 2021. “Our project team is motivated to support our Marines and their vital mission and we look forward to providing a world class, state of the art EOD Facility,” said Mark Nakagawa, NAVFAC Pacific DC project manager.

Atkins Kroll, mayors collect used batteries

Pacific Daily News To celebrate Earth Day and the theme  Restore Our Earth,  Atkins Kroll Inc. will host a used car battery campaign with the Mayors Council of Guam, according to a news release.  “The 30-day campaign will clean up used and discarded automotive batteries out of the villages and into a prescribed recycling program,” said Wendi Herring, president of Atkins Kroll Inc. The company distributes the AC Delco brand of automotive parts and batteries.

Vaccine outreach scheduled for FSM community on Guam Pacific Daily News On Saturday and Sunday, there will be two venues for COVID-19 vaccinations that aim to administer doses to members of Guam s Federated States of Micronesia community. In partnership with the Mayors’ Council of Guam, Federated States of Micronesia Consulate Office, Public Health, the FSM Association of Guam, Micronesian Resource Center One-Stop Shop, Chuukese Catholic Faith Association, University of Guam Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program and other FSM community organizations and leaders: The Guam Regional Medical City, will hold a COVID-19 vaccination outreach 2 to 5 p.m. April 17 at GRMC in Dededo. Those who received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine March 28 at the Dededo Senior Center will be prioritized. Bring a photo ID.
