New game encourages residents to visit Berlin businesses

BERLIN â The town economic development department has started a new game to encourage residents to support local businesses.Â
Berlin Bingo allows residents and visitors to win prizes by shopping at local shops. The rules align with traditional Bingo â when a player marks five spaces in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, theyâve earned one entry towards a gift card drawing.
If a player makes an X, they will receive five entries, 20 entries if they complete 20 boxes, and 25 entries if they fill the entire Bingo card.Â

BERLIN â The town council passed a resolution this week urging Gov. Ned Lamont to address the ongoing spikes in car theft and break-ins.Â
âThis resolution is asking for a conversation,â said Mayor Mark Kaczynski during a council meeting on Tuesday. âThe Berlin Town Council supports and strongly encourages a meeting with the Governor to partner and identify solutions in the best interest of all stakeholders.â
The number of stolen cars in Berlin jumped from 16 in 2019 to 64 during 2020, according to Police Chief John Klett. The number of auto break-ins has also spiked. As of Nov. 30, police recorded 255 reported cases. Last year during the same time period they recorded 52. Â
