It’s always a pleasure to read John Rhodes’ articles about our local history. His historical writings combine the most worthy attributes for any interested reader, which is to say that they are well-researched, entertaining, and informative. The subjects and content of Mr. Rhodes’ investigations often serve to distinguish the many virtues of our forbearers from whom we can learn a great deal as we navigate the river of time. Of course, history is just as replete with buffoons and villains as it is with heroes and people of integrity. Mr. Rhodes’ lens puts into focus both opposing forces, and those in between when appropriate.

The house is old, but I am not sure of the construction date. It is before 1893 as it is evident in the Toronto Lithographic map of that year.

I previously wrote about Manson Campbell in the March 13, 2013 issue of Chatham This Week but have since learned much more about this unique citizen.
