Local Team Highlights Hewitt Tournament Finals
Max Gross The championship games at the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament will have a local flair on Saturday night. No. 17 Nowata and No. 4 Oklahoma Union square off for the boy’s title at 8:30 p.m. and Oklahoma Union and Mannford will play for the girl’s championship at 7 p.m. The two Nowata County rivals share a great degree of familiarity. Nowata head coach Gary Hollingshead is the father of two of the Cougars best players Kade and Jace Hollingshead. On the court Nowata has been potent. The Ironmen have notched 24 three’s in the first two rounds of the tournament. This will be Nowata’s first title game appearance in this event since 2017 and they have not won it since 2016.

OKU Cruises Past Commerce to Tournament Finals
Max Gross No. 4 Oklahoma Union punched its ticket to the finals of the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament on Thursday night with a 68-41 win over Commerce. The Tigers filled the semifinal spot for Oologah who had to drop out due to COVID-19 concerns. The Cougars blitzed Commerce from the start going up 20-4 after the first quarter. Jace Hollingshead was a big part of the early scoring effort. 13 of his 17 points came in the first half. Nate Collier was a force down low with 18 points on the night.
