The Caney Valley eighth-grade Academic team members were crowned district champions Tuesday night at Oklahoma Union by winning two out of three games against the host team. Caney Valley won 240-150 before losing 170-190. In the deciding game, the Trojans came from behind to defeat OU 160-150. Leading a balanced group was Aiden Marsheck with 120 points followed by Ryan Schnelle with 80 points, Logan Whitehead with 50 points, Wyatt Hollenbeck with 40 points, and Landon Aldridge with 10.

Wesleyan Christian Guys Off to Good Start
Evan Fahrbach High school basketball is on a bit of a hiatus this week because of the upcoming holiday. However teams without virus issues have already had nearly a third of their season, and one of the most impressive starts so far belongs to the Wesleyan Christian School boys. The Mustangs are 5-1 thus far, with their only loss coming to the talented Oklahoma Union JV club. WCS has wins over Copan twice, Barnsdall, Welch and Claremore Christian. Scoring has been key for a younger club thus far, as Wesleyan is averaging 65.5 points per game.

Dewey Hoping to Get Past Early Struggles
Max Gross The early parts of the basketball season continue to frustrate for the Dewey Bulldoggers. So far Dewey has only been able to play two games, both losses. The Doggers dealt with bouts of COVID-19 that depleted their preseason and most recently a game on Friday had to be canceled due to a positive test. Dewey has felt the effects of the virus not only in missed games and practices but also it has been difficult when the team has gotten a chance to take the court. The Doggers are 0-2 with losses to Locust Grove and Oklahoma Union

Nowata Shooting Up in Rankings Ahead of Winter Break
Max Gross Despite the cancellation of three games due to opponent’s COVID-19 cases the start of the basketball season has still been considered a success for the Nowata boys’ team. The Ironmen have climbed up to the No. 14 spot in the latest 2A rankings. Nowata started the at No. 19 in the polls. Nowata is 4-1 after Friday’s game with Vinita was called off. The Ironmen have made at least 12 three pointers in all four of their victories. Mark Price and Gabe Velasco have been the top marksmen for the Ironmen so far. Nowata cruised to 60+ point victories against Afton and Barnsdall this week. Nowata’s schedule will ramp up with several Northeast Valley Conference games after the New Year. The Ironmen have only played one NEVC team, Oklahoma Union so far.
