It’s common for horses shipping over from New Zealand or Australia to need change: a new style of racing and training, to add Lasix, or just a change of scenery. And often there is nowhere to go but up for those horses. Take standout Nifty Norman import Let It Ride as an example. He lost 10 straight races in Australia before coming to the U.S., added Lasix, and became the next rising star pacer. However, when Some Waratah arrived in Amanda Kelley’s stable from Australia on a five-race win streak, she worried there was nowhere to go but down.

Bendigo and Redcliffe are the focus.

Best bet: Race 1, Number 1, Glamour Rainbow
Whata Glimpse is a pretty talented mare, but this filly can turn the tables from their clash here on Thursday. This girl copped serious heat in front last time before eventually looking for cover, and she battled on well to run second. There won’t be as much pressure this time around and if that run hasn’t busted her, she’ll take beating.

Whatâs exciting about performing live for a musician who hasnât been on stage for over a year? Everything. Itâs a three-hour drive from Sydney to Bathurst and Elliott Margin is cooped at the back of a rattling van taking The Rubens to their next gig, but the expectation and excitement for the keyboard player is palpable after the five-piece finally got in front of an audience the previous night with a cobweb-clearing show at the Coogee Bay Hotel.
âWe went well, but we were very nervous going in. Me personally, I couldnât enjoy the first song or two, but that went away and then I felt locked in,â Elliott says. âWeâd spent a year not getting that adrenalin, so it hit twice as hard.â

There are two meetings to look at on Saturday night, with Group 1 action in Melton plus races in Menangle.
Below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Melton
Best bet: Multi (Race 1, Number 5/Race 2, Number 1/Race 4, Number 3)
Multi these three up to win and you should get around $2.60 or $2.70, which looks good value. The first two are former Kiwis that make their Australian debut for Andy Gath and each looked outstanding in trials here earlier this week. Barring bad luck, they should win. The last leg is President Roydon, who looks destined for the top grade and has come back in super order. There is a bit of depth to this line-up, but he looks so progressive.
