Brothers skipper Matthew Wicks says the wet start to the Mackay Cricket calendar year is likely a dual blessing in disguise for his side ahead of a return to action this weekend.
The Poole Cup competition leaders dodged matches against finals rivals Norths and Magpies over the past fortnight, as persistent rain delayed a return to the 40-over competition.
With Harrup Park’s pitches now ready to roll, Brothers will instead open their 2021 campaign against a winless Pioneer Valley on Saturday.
The skipper said Brothers’ good fortune in avoiding tough outings against Norths and Magpies was made better due to the club’s place atop the standings.

Brothers failed to adjust to the shorter format at the same clip as their rivals and it cost them a chance at a finals berth.
That was the assessment from stand-in skipper Michael Comerford after his side struggled in its return to Div 1 T20 Shootout action this month.
Brothers managed to win just one game upon resumption of the T20 fixtures and dropped from equal-first to out of the running as a result.
It was a surprising series of events considering the team was coming off a hugely successful start to its Poole Cup campaign, sitting outright first before the switch to the shorter format.
Post-season pecking order on the line in final round of T20s
