Worcester City Council votes to shelve controversial Duffy Field upgrade plans
WORCESTER The City Council voted Tuesday night to abandon plans to upgrade Duffy Field at Wetherell Park, effectively ending months of acrimonious debate about the fate of the Newton Square park.
The council s 8-3 vote to support District 1 Councilor Sean Rose s order effectively killed efforts to upgrade the park sandwiched between Chalmers Road and Newton Avenue.
The council recommitted the master planning report on the agenda back to the city administration.
Rose put an order on the agenda Tuesday asking the city administration to cease plans to upgrade Wetherell Park/Duffy Field, and to focus its efforts on upgrading Foley Stadium.
