Teens Story Falls Apart about Shooting Taking Place at Party

Four teenagers’ stories didn’t match up Jan. 4 for a New Mexico State Police officer investigating the shooting of a 16-year-old girl allegedly at an outdoor party.     According to Officer Johnathan Sanchez’s incident report, Marissa Trujillo, 16, Medanales was shot in the left cheek and ear while at a bonfire party in Medanales.     Sanchez responded to an E-911 call which stated Trujillo was enroute to the Española Hospital Emergency Room. She eventually arrived, following confusion on where she was and in whose vehicle, between the party and the hospital.     Sanchez immediately noticed Trujillo was highly intoxicated. When he asked her what happened she could only state she was shot at a party and then gave incomplete answers.

Santa Fe Demons moonlighting as Christmas angels

Zach Martinez spent the past nine months waiting to do something “not normal.” So he stood in a nearly empty parking lot in 30-degree weather, collecting donations to help bring a sense of normalcy for families in need. That felt like a step in the right direction, he said. Martinez, a junior at Santa Fe High, was among several members of the football program taking part in a donation drive to collect food, clothing, gift cards and money that will go to families in need during the holidays. While the group is trying to help the less fortunate, Martinez said this simple act of community service also is bringing much-needed joy for those in the football program.
