“Matthew Pritchard was an employee with MCL and worked as a shunter lorry driver. “Michael Sheppard was an employee of Tata. He was a deputy shift manager who also operated machinery concerning steel coils.” Following an internal company inquiry, it was discovered stock worth £25,000 was missing with an investigation pointing the finger of blame at the two defendants. Sheppard, 45, of Islwyn Street, Abercarn, admitted the theft of two steel coils worth £12,500. Pritchard, 43, of Kingsland Walk, St Dials, Cwmbran, pleaded guilty to stealing four steel coils worth £25,000. The offences took place towards the end of 2018. Mr Davies added: “There may have been others involved. We can suspect but we can’t prove.

A SMALL north Pembrokeshire church now has an enduring link to murder-mystery novelist Agatha Christie. ‘In loving memory of Agatha Christie’ has been inscribed on one of the new bells destined for Nevern Church. The bells at St Brynach stopped ringing 120 years ago, but an on-going local fund-raising effort has raised more than £400,000 and the project to stabilise the 12th Century tower and install the new and refurbished bells is fast approaching the finish line. Once completed, St Brynach will be the only church -outside Cathedrals - in Wales to have a peal of 10 bells, making it musically rather special. The bells are due for delivery any day and a special Covid-secure service is planned to bless them.

As Wales’ recycling rate reaches an all-time high, people in Wales are being encouraged to keep up their ‘mighty’ efforts when it comes to recycling this Christmas.
New annual data from Statistics Wales released by Welsh Government reveals Wales’ overall recycling rate saw a huge boost this year, increasing from 63% in 2018/19 to 65% in 2019/20, exceeding its target of 64%. This figure includes waste figures from all local authorities, apart from Cardiff Council.
