Nevern Church a-peal almost at fruition

Vicars’ Warden Cilla Evans and People’ s Warden Sue Watkins – rang Nevern Church’s 3 bells Ellacombe on Easter Sunday. THE bells of Nevern Church have moved a tantalising step closer towards their first Full Peal in 120 years. Members of the Nevern Bells project hope St Brynach bell-ringers can deliver a 10-bell peal around the end of June – subject to the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. On Easter Sunday the church re-opened to welcome thirty members of the congregation as the newly-installed 3 bells Ellacombe – rung by Vicars’ Warden Cilla Evans and People’ s Warden Sue Watkins –sounded across the Nevern Valley for the first time since October 2019.

Special service to bless the bells at Nevern church in north Pembrokeshire

A SPECIAL service has been held to dedicate the new bells which are to be installed at a north Pembrokeshire church. Parishoners at St Brynach’s Church at Nevern saw their hard fund-raising work rewarded when the Bishop of St Davids the Rt Revd Dr Joanna Penberthy carried out the blessing of the 13 bells which are now in the church and are set to be installed in the newly-restored bell tower. It is more than 120 years since the bells at St Brynach last rang out across the village but now, thanks to a huge two-year fundraising effort that has brought in more than £400,000, the project to restore the 12th century church tower and bells is almost complete.

Commemorative bell cast in memory of Agatha Christie at Nevern Church

A SMALL north Pembrokeshire church now has an enduring link to murder-mystery novelist Agatha Christie. ‘In loving memory of Agatha Christie’ has been inscribed on one of the new bells destined for Nevern Church. The bells at St Brynach stopped ringing 120 years ago, but an on-going local fund-raising effort has raised more than £400,000 and the project to stabilise the 12th Century tower and install the new and refurbished bells is fast approaching the finish line. Once completed, St Brynach will be the only church -outside Cathedrals - in Wales to have a peal of 10 bells, making it musically rather special. The bells are due for delivery any day and a special Covid-secure service is planned to bless them.
