Second install of Herons on the Bayou art lands in Ouachita Parish

Herons project is building connections Julia Sweeney decided to paint a heron after her students at Sterlington High School pointed out that she d developed it as a lesson plan for them, but she had not painted her own yet. During the fall election season, she quickly designed a patriotic bird with freehanded stars and stripes. The family of Matthew Cameron had the option to choose a heron to honor his memory from donated funds, and they chose Sweeney s design. Cameron was a founding member of Downtown Monroe Renaissance. The director of strategy and business development for CenturyLink also served in numerous leadership roles at local nonprofits and in state leadership.

TWRA celebrates area coordinator s 42 years of service An Iraq war veteran, TWRA area coordinator, and UT Knoxville grad, Danny Akins, was celebrated for his service to his country and community last week. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency said farewell to Region 4 Wildlife Management Area Coordinator Danny Akins last week after 42 years of service.  Family, friends, and colleagues gathered at the Ball Farm Convention Center in LaFollette to celebrate. Akins began his career with TWRA in 1979 as a wildlife technician at Tellico Hatchery with the responsibility of culturing fish.  During his tenure at the hatchery, he attended night classes at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville earning his Bachelor of Science degree in wildlife and fisheries.
