Addionics Joins Saint-Gobain To Develop A Solid-State Battery

Addionics Joins Saint-Gobain To Develop A Solid-State Battery Apr 20, 2021 1m ago ++ When you remember John Goodenough was researching a solid-glass electrolyte. Saint-Gobain said it developed new solid-state battery components, more specifically solid electrolytes – which are the very definition of a solid-state cell. According to Saint-Gobain, its electrolytes present “high lithium-ion conductivity comparable with the state-of-the-art solid electrolytes.”  The French company states that these properties will allow it to “offer additional potential performance, manufacturing and economic benefits.” These two last aspects of its solid electrolyte are crucial to help create a feasible solid-state cell. Regarding Addionics, its 3D electrodes claim to improve battery performance regardless of the chemistry by making electrons travel much faster inside the cells. That would be achieved with porous electrodes.

All the wars, Revolutionary, World War I, World War II, the Iraqi war, Vietnam wall, we will have a replica of that here. We hope it will be a nice exhibit space for the Monroe County area, said Albert Compoly, American Legion Post 903.

Notoriously Secretive EV Battery Companies Begin to Open Up

Photo: © Solid Power For the whole of the 140-year history of automotive batteries, researchers and their bosses have tended to secrecy. Even when forced to say something as a requirement of government or private funding, the default has been half-truths, and sometimes less. The main reason for all the hiding has been sincere: Batteries are hard and victories over the physics rare; usually you have nothing great to tell, and when you do, you want to hold it close. Which explains the surprise in recent weeks as some of the most important actors in advanced batteries have unleashed a torrent of transparency. Not comprehensive openness, but enough data to satisfy battery researchers who have since been busily debating the releases on Twitter and elsewhere.
