Ex-Ohio GOP leader accused in federal bribery case: FBI selectively edited recorded talks
COLUMBUS – Former Ohio Republican Party chairman Matt Borges says he never violated state campaign rules while defending a controversial nuclear bailout law, according to an affidavit he filed with the Ohio Elections Commission.
Last July, Borges was one of five people charged with racketeering in connection with a nearly $61 million bribery scheme to help Rep. Larry Householder win control of the Ohio House of Representatives, pass a $1 billion bailout for nuclear plants and defend that law against a ballot initiative to block it.
Borges has pleaded not guilty to the offense.
